After a positive day yesterday, today has not been so good. Lots of discomfort (post op), tiredness (its SO noisy in hospitals) and general apprehension. Ella's arm, wrist and hand are all very swollen and painful which has triggered memories of the last time her arm looked like this (August - just before the cancer diagnosis). Of course the swelling and pain this time are just due to the 9 hour operation!
We chatted a bit in between more tubes coming out, more physio and the regular observations on the "new skin" and the "donor site" (check out my new terminology - now becoming a "plastics" expert as well as cancer, chemo, anorexia etc) , and Ella is scared - scared about hearing the results of the operation and in general scared about cancer.
What do you say except "It's absolutely OK to be scared and you don't have to be brave all the time" - FACT!
On Thursday morning we are meeting the consultants to discuss the results and hopefully establish what the plan is going forward. So not much more news till then.
If you like the medical details then:
- All her observations are OK - temperature, blood pressure etc etc
- All tubes are out - except morphine pain relief
- The new skin (flap) is taking well (some blisters - normal apparently)
- She is still on intravenous anti biotics and a shed load of pain killers
more big hugs from me XXXXXXXXXX
