Wanting to practise what I preach, yesterday I again tried to give blood - and was rejected! The third time in 18 months. "borderline anaemic" in that I am not clinically anaemic but my blood is not good enough to give. I tried the pleading approach - but was sent home and will be recalled in 3-6 months. So the walk of shame out of the donor session......
On reporting my miserable failure to Ella on return to the house - she said "never mind Mum, you are not the only one, Ian and Gaynor (Our friends who live in USA) can't give blood either - because they have got mad cow disease. Whoops, sorry, I mean they have previously lived in a country with an outbreak of mad cow disease... the UK!
I love it when you let me know that you have given blood - I have lost track. Most recently, CJ, Emma, Karen, Marion, Sonia, Jack and the list goes on - please please just keep it coming:)
Hi Jo,
ReplyDeleteI've been reading your blog for a few weeks now and I just wanted to say how amazing I think you are, being so strong for your 2 girls. I can't imagine how you're all feeling but I believe if you all stick together then your journey will be that bit easier!
I can't give blood due to medication I'm on, but I would if I could, and I'm telling as many people as I can!
Jenna (ex SACO) xox
Hi Jenna - how lovely to hear from you and all your kind thoughts and wishes. They all help and make such a difference. I hope all is well with you.
DeletePlease keep telling lots of people to give blood :)

I too was classed as a mad cow - no sniggering - when living in Canada and trying to give blood.
ReplyDeleteLuckily Bristol is more forgiving:-)
Marion
I am sure I could often be classed as mad cow !

ReplyDeleteI too would give, if I could, but due to the medication I am still on, I can't! Read the blog everyday and to see how positive you all are is inspiring.

Hi Jo
ReplyDeleteSiggi told me about your blog today so I hope you don't mind me joining in?! I to had the experience with giving blood twice I have been rejected now once because they were not enough weeks after returning from New york last year and then again because my blood count was low! I do try to eat in the morning before work however normally don't stop for lunch and as I went for a lunch time appointment my blood count was not good enough and did not sink quickly when they did the test!! I also walk back to the office in shame!! Much love Jayne S xx
PS However I have given and due again soon now going to Collage Green instead of the TA centre. Mum did it for over 25 years and I have all the little badges then send to you when you reach special mile stones!!! xx
ReplyDeleteHi Jayne - go right ahead and join in, I believe the more people that take part and join in the more chance Ella and Sophie have of getting better "safety in numbers" approach
ReplyDeleteGood luck when you try next time :)
