TV and Juicing

TV and juicing - two vital ingredients in the healing progress..

Gosh  busy day in more ones than one, culminating in the Masterchef final - great result our favourite  contestant won. Well done Shelina.  Thank goodness for TV, its been our salvation on many long days, evenings, weekend over the past eleven months.  I will never ever be dismissive of it again as a form of entertainment.

Lots of juicing activity - with a growing enthusiastic team of supporters and participants (Annie and Amy) - beetroot, carrots, blackberries, kiwi fruits, apples, lime and ginger all made it into the great juicing machine at some point today - not all together I hasten to add.

Blood test results back today - low potassium levels so a few hours at the hospital tomorrow for an infusion and top up.  Based on the amount of fruit and vegetables that Ella has been consuming you would think her levels would be OK.  Just goes to show how powerful the chemotherapy is at knocking all the good out of your body,  and its still knocking out the good cells a week later...

Potassium is a mineral that the body needs to work normally. It helps nerves and muscles communicate. It also helps move nutrients into cells and waste products out of cells. A diet rich in potassium helps to offset some ofsodium's harmful effects on blood pressure.
Most people get all the potassium they need from what they eat and drink. Sources of potassium in the diet include
  • Leafy greens, such as spinach and collards
  • Fruit from vines, such as grapes and blackberries
  • Root vegetables, such as carrots and potatoes
  • Citrus fruits, such as oranges and grapefruit

  1. Of course, you could try eating pure potassium metal, but I would not recommend it. Ask that accomplished chemist you have in the house.
