Done it - the gruelling chemo schedule is finished, the summit of Ella's mountain has been reached, Ella came home at 8.30 last night and celebrated with a gin and tonic and a bath!
Having climbed Ayers Rock twice - I think its the best description of Ella's mountain - a very steep hard climb to the top and and then a long and wide undulating summit with lots of ups and downs to be navigated to get to the other side.
The chemo climb started 10 months ago at the beginning of September and has included over 100 nights in hospital, two operations, three unscheduled emergency visits/stays (including the one in intensive care). gallons of chemo, buckets of medication, many boxes of tissues to mop up the tears, at least 10 kilos of carrots and other fruit and veg (for the juicing), endless hours of reality TV, and even more endless hours of waiting for things to happen.
Next steps on the summit crossing are:
Hope and pray that Ella does not become ill over the next 14 days as the chemo bangs all her good cells and blood count to pieces
A trip to Wimbledon on Tuesday - a longed for dream
Ongoing weekly Mepact sessions at the day unit
Scans and X rays - scary!
And of course preparation for the big operation on 01 August.
Onwards...
A massive congratulations to you all! I hope Ella enjoys Wimbledon (will look out for her on TV!!) and also gets some time to relax before the next operation. Lots of love xxx
