Today Ella took 60 plus homemade chocolate cupcakes into ward 61 for the amazing staff to say thank you for all the care they have given her over the past 10 months and of course support for me. Then she popped downstairs to the day unit for an hour of mepact - lovely :)
Thank heavens for the wonderful Eleanor who bravely took on the logistical challenge of helping Ella make the cakes, ice and decorate them and get them into the hospital on the hottest day of the year - but job done and I understand greatly appreciated.
Already some of the ghastly memories of spending so much time on ward 61 are fading for me (can't speak for Ella) - but I do miss some of nurses and care assistants who we got to know so well.
Still - won't be long till we are back too hospital living - in fact only five nights till we are ensconced on ward F at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Hospital in Oxford. Very mixed feelings - "hurrah its nearly here - lets get on with it" - through to "measured anxiety".
