Do Something Amazing
8, 000 units of blood are needed every day to meet hospital demand. Blood comes in four main types - O, A, B and AB. Group O is the most common which means it is in high demand. Blood can also be subdivided into its main components - red cells, white cells, platelets and plasma. Unfortunately red cells only have a shelf-life of 35 days, while platelets shelf life is even less, only five days.
Almost anyone between the ages of 17 and 65 can become a new blood donor. And those who are regular donors can continue to donate as long as they are in good health.
Last year we collected 2.1 million donations from about 1.6 million donors. Although that sounds a lot, it reflects only 4% of the population, giving two or three times a year.
Ella is better today - but still on antibiotics and being monitored closely, exit strategy from the hospital unknown - maybe Friday evening, maybe Saturday maybe??????
The boulder is stuck - not rolling back but not moving forwards either. Fed up does not even come close to describe how Ella is feeling:(

ReplyDeleteCoventry Fan Club now in Malta on holiday.
ReplyDeleteYour Fan Club is in Malta for a few days and you are not going to believe this but I've had to start another Fan Club - our Maltese friends' grandson (Andrew Chetcuti) has been appointed as on of the Malta Olympic swimmers for London - so I have now got to think of two Fan Clubs each day.
Malta is a Catholic country and so the church is very much woven into local culture with its feast days and fiesta days - shops will have pictures of Our Lady or a cross showing somewhere - (as well as posters for either Liverpool FC or Manchester United FC) - so there is always a spiritual feeling in every day life.
So your family have had some special prayers said for it at a number of churches/shrines around the island over the past few days so our prayers and petitions are very much international!
I am sorry to say that I've got to support Malta's swimming team - particularly Andrew - in the forthcoming Olympics - we shall see.

We are continuing to pray and give blood - we will between us move that bloody boulder upwards and onwards! Love Anne and Peter x
