"More piss and fresh fellas"...

... how random is that as posting title???

Tonight I had the lovely opportunity to meet up with a time in my life - when I was 21.

There I was in 1981 all fresh faced, naive and open to anything and everything that was on my radar. I set off for Australia and spent many happy months living with Gillian in Sydney (the originator of the expression "more piss and fresh fellas"), whilst I was there I met one of my very best friends to be - Marion and one of my existing best friends Shelagh came out to join us.

So tonight in Bristol I had dinner with Gillian, Shelagh and Lorraine (other best friend - waiting for us all when we finally came back to Bristol from Aus all those years ago), we laughed and reminisced about being young and carefree.

And my point is (yes I am getting there) - is GO ELLA and GO SOPHIE - go and have the time of your lives as soon as you can and laugh and meet wonderful people to add to all the lovely people and friends you have already met :)

  1. In July 1983, when I was 21, I had no idea what I was going to do. So unemployed, but with a degree, I applied for all sorts of things; in-between, I read the whole of Lord of Rings.

Then, out of the blue, from a whole load of applications, I got a research posting to Leicester. So, I guess the only thing I can advise, is make sure your name is in the frame, with some proof of capability (which Ella and Sophie have in spades) and take any spare time to expand you mind (though, perhaps something more useful than Tolkien!)

  2. Wish I could have been there. More reminiscing in September when Peter comes over so we can relive our very sedate....not... times in Townsville.

  3. Great advice from a great Mum.
    A little piece I remember from a Great Aunt's autograph book :
"make new friends but keep the old,
these are silver, those are gold".

  4. What an amazing mother ! Perfect sentiment to send people off on adventures. Luxembourg is almost as good as Australia and less poisonous things ;-)
