So chatting it through with the nurses on Friday, we all decided it would be a good idea for us to go to Oxford today and see the consultant for peace of mind.
He (Henk Giele) was just so lovely and kind to Ella and spent ages with her. Anyway several x rays later he said the following:
Everything is still healing really well, and the aching and pain is due to the existing bone in her lower arm having to work hard to "embrace" the new bone. The shoulder pain is very, very tight tendons where Ella has been protecting her shoulder and carrying her arm around in a sling for so long.
So Ella has been sent home to continue wearing the sling when she is out and about, but the sling can come off when she is sitting around doing nothing in particular, then gradually as she gets used to that she can try moving round the house without the sling on. When she is sitting still she can try using her right hand to do things like write, eat etc
So all very positive and reassuring, still no full on physio and the sling must continue to be a fashion feature for the time being - all that will be reviewed again in five weeks time.
On a final note he confirmed that Ella must definitely still not carry out the following activities:
1. CROWD SURFING (Ella asked about this)
2. WASHING UP - or other similar domestic duties (I asked about this)
Dad - this is crowd surfing!!!!!! |
That last bit made me laugh:-)
ReplyDeleteI worry that Ella may never remember what washing up is - then I have to remind myself she never did much before her arm went wonky!
DeleteGood to get the re-assurance from Oxford. I am not sure the photo makes me any the wiser!
ReplyDeleteDoh - its what the hip young things do at gigs!
DeleteAh, when I look again, I can see what is going on
DeleteThink it's some sort of crazy method of washing up.
