I never was any good at fractions..

... at school, and not much better now!

Each dose of radiotherapy they give Ella is apparently called a "fraction".  To date she has had 8 out of the planned 13.  5 more to follow on each day next week.

It would seem the radiotherapy is the main cause of her extreme fatigue and just being generally very unwell at present.

So with no reason to leave the house today - its been a total bed rest day - lots of sleep and nothing else (even Brian is of no interest).  Another day of the same tomorrow, and then time to face yet more "fractions" on Monday.

  1. Pull up a chair by the fire and watch Strictly and x factor with the rest of us. Sleep well, Ella. (Brian - don't take it personally.)

  2. Fractions are easy; 61.5% done, 38.5% to go! Make the most of the rest and somehow get through next week. Let's hope Ella gets the return on all this that the raditherapy has the potential to achieve, love U Bob

  3. Hi Jo, Bill and I are in awe of your strength and thank you for your updates which at this present time must be difficult for you to write. Just know that we are thinking of you, Ella and Soph constantly.
PS No I wasn't much good at fractions but it would seem that there are fewer sessions to go - have a relaxing weekend ready for the onslaught next week which hopefully will bring reward to Ella! All my love Jan xxx

  4. We use pizza fractions when teaching them at school - I have even taken in pizzas and cut them up into required number of segments, which works a treat, but must admit have never used 13th's! Am sure that Brian understands in the way that animals seem to tune in to how we are feeling. Hope that you and Sophie are managing to get some much needed rest too and that this debilitating treatment results in giving Ella the boost she so needs. Much love from us xxx

  5. Rest is good folks to allow the body to reboot itself for whatever it has to endure and face, so just go with it to put yourselves in best position to cope with the coming 5 days....... Uncle Jim x

  6. Point of detail U Bob - it is fractions and not %'s that Jo has an issue with !! Great film choice last night Ella (Senna) , a lot better than "strictly" or "x factor" - I am available ,more often if needed !!!!

    1. Point of education for U Andrew. A percentage is just another way of expressing a fraction. So, for example, take two bodies A and B. Let's say A weighs 15st and B 12st. Then B is B/A the weight of A; that is 12/15, which can be simplified to 4/5. 4/5 is a vulgar fraction, which resolves to 0.8, a decimal fraction, multiply by 100 to get percent - 80%. So B is 80% the weight of A.

Ella is 8/13 through her radiotherapy, which is 0.615 or 61.5%

      Easy really, U Bob

  8. Jo, you are not alone on the fraction front. Boys, thanks for the maths lesson today. I’m just thankful that calculators were invented:) Jo, just recently became aware of the extent of Ella’s illness and wanted to say I am thinking of you and your gorgeous girls, (and Brian!) Keep strong. Much Love. Maxine Turner. xxx
